Repairs ongoing at power supply station in Grundarfjörður, Iceland
Repairs on the power supply station in Grundarfjörður have taken longer than expected. Helga Jóhannsdóttir, operations manager for utility systems at Rarik, stated that the repairs are ongoing, and they anticipate restoring electricity by 9 PM this evening.
The power outages affect the town of Grundarfjörður and surrounding areas, as illustrated on Rarik’s outage map.
“We have been working since this morning, and workers were on site until midnight last night. There was a certain level of complexity in the operation, and we want to ensure everything is done correctly,” Helga explained.
Electricity went out in the town and nearby areas around 1 AM on Sunday and has been relying on backup power since then. Residents are advised to conserve electricity while the repairs are in progress.
