Police managed to prevent a robbery in Kivistö, Vantaa, thanks to a citizen’s alert, according to the Eastern Uusimaa police department. The police reported that a vigilant citizen overheard a group of four discussing robbery plans at the Kivistö train station. They talked about topics such as the call button for security personnel.

Based on what they heard, the citizen decided to contact emergency services. Following the call, police dispatched several patrols to investigate the situation. The police remained in the area to monitor it, and soon identified the target of the group’s robbery plans.

Patrols noticed a man wearing a balaclava walking towards a store at the Kivistö station. The man entered the store, and the police followed him inside. They quickly realized the masked individual’s intentions when they found him in the store’s vestibule. He was apprehended at the checkout while holding a sharp weapon.

The suspected robber complied with police instructions and surrendered the weapon. He was arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery and possession of an object intended for harming another person. Authorities also located the other members of the group and are now investigating their involvement.

The Eastern Uusimaa police praised the quick thinking of the citizen and the calm actions of the cashier during the incident. “We, the police, are here for the residents in our areas, and this is a great example of how, through cooperation, we can enhance safety for our communities and citizens,” stated Chief Inspector Jussi Huhtela in a police announcement.
