The Jewish community in Denmark has expressed its deep shock and concern following the indictment of a 21-year-old man for terrorism, related to a fire set in May at the residence of a Jewish woman in Copenhagen. Henri Goldstein, the chairman of the Jewish Community, described this incident as a form of antisemitic terror and a targeted attack on a Jewish family.

Goldstein emphasized that no matter the differing opinions or disagreements that may exist, the act constitutes a dangerous arson that cannot be defended, relativized, or justified. He stated that the attack stands out as a particularly troubling incident aimed directly at a private home, adding that the community wishes to avoid importing external conflicts into Denmark and, most importantly, into people’s private residences.

According to the community, the affected family is coping well under the circumstances. The arson occurred early in the morning on May 29, when outdoor furniture on a balcony was set ablaze. Fortunately, the fire was detected before it spread extensively.

The accused is said to have connections to the gang environment in Denmark, specifically with the banned group Loyal To Familia. Security officials have expressed concern over the implications of a person being targeted for terrorism due to their Jewish background, as well as the potential links to organized crime.

The 21-year-old has pleaded not guilty, and the preliminary hearing is being conducted behind closed doors, with a publication ban in place to protect the identities of both the accused and the victim.
