The population of the Faroe Islands has surpassed 55,000, reaching 54,908 as of August 1. This represents a growth of only 0.5% compared to the same date last year. According to the National Statistics Office, this marks the smallest annual growth since the population increase began a decade ago.

From August 1 of last year to August 1 this year, 296 individuals were added to the population. The most notable change occurred in net migration, which decreased by more than half, resulting in a net gain of only 167 people.

Additionally, the natural increase in population also saw a decline, attributed to a decrease in the number of births. The natural increase stood at 129.
