Nurses in Reykjavík face ongoing wage dispute after contract expiration

Monday 9th 2024 on 16:23 in
Iceland

Nurses employed by the state and the City of Reykjavík have been without a collective wage agreement for nearly six months, as their contracts expired on April 1. Negotiations for a new agreement have not yielded positive results.

Guðbjörg Pálsdóttir, chair of the Icelandic Nurses’ Association, expressed concern about the slow pace of discussions, stating, “This is progressing very slowly and is a cause for concern.” She emphasized that conversations could be more focused and effective.

In recent weeks, the negotiating committees from the association have held meetings with representatives from both the state and the municipality. These meetings have taken place within broader working groups as well as smaller subgroups aimed at addressing specific issues in the contract negotiations.
