Recently, Kári Johansen, a member of the Tórshavn city council, announced his departure from the Social Democratic Party (Javnaðarflokkurin) to join the Progress Party (Framsókn), a move he has made in the past.

In an interview with the local radio station, Johansen revealed that the primary reason for his switch was a lack of consensus between himself and the mayor, Heðin Mortensen, particularly regarding issues related to SEV and the Tórshavn port, where Johansen holds a leadership role.

Johansen serves as the chairperson of SEV’s board. His shift to the Progress Party could indicate internal tensions within the Social Democratic Party, according to political commentator Árni Gregersen.

Despite joining a minority party, Johansen stated that he plans to step away from the majority in the city council but intends to uphold the coalition agreement he signed four years ago.
