Faroe Islands

This morning, shortly after the school day commenced, smoke was detected at Glyvrar School, prompting immediate action. The cause was identified as a fire in a water supply area on the lower floor, specifically in the western section near the gymnasium.

According to Runavíkar Municipality, both the local fire department and police quickly arrived on the scene, and the fire was extinguished swiftly.

All students and teachers were evacuated from the building, with students relocated to Bylgjunnar while teachers gathered in the old town hall of Saltangará.

The smoke had spread significantly throughout the school, prompting assessments to determine the extent of the damage and when normal school operations might resume in Glyvrar.

The school will provide updates as new information becomes available.
