A search and rescue operation was initiated this evening in the area north of Viðey near Kollafjörður after an emergency call was made. Around 8 PM, rescue teams, the fire department, and a Coast Guard helicopter were dispatched to the scene following the distress signal.

According to information, the call to the emergency line was abruptly disconnected, making it impossible to reestablish contact with the individual in need. In response to the situation, preparations were quickly set in motion. Just as rescue boats were being deployed to the water, the Coast Guard successfully reconnected with the vessel that had sent the distress call, which appeared to have been triggered automatically.

Fortunately, the individual aboard was found to be safe, prompting the cancellation of the emergency response.
