Authorities urged to enhance child welfare standards in Faroe Islands

Authorities in the Faroe Islands must do a better job when it comes to cases involving children. This statement comes from the parliamentary ombudsperson, Hanna Vang, who emphasizes the importance of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in Faroese legal proceedings.

“To truly uphold the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which came into force in the Faroe Islands in 1993, decisions affecting children or made in relation to children must be considered only after thoroughly taking into account their perspectives and needs,” she stated.

In a lengthy article on her website, www.lum.fo, Vang highlights the significance of children’s rights in legal matters that concern them. She believes that current efforts by authorities fall short of what is necessary to protect and promote the rights and perspectives of children.

For further insights, a conversation with Hanna Vang can be listened to on the website, which offers a 3-minute audio segment discussing these critical issues.
