Kári Johansen announces decision on political future amid tensions in Tórshavn elections

In the upcoming elections, Kári Johansen, who previously served as a member of the Social Democratic Party with 268 personal votes, has expressed his intentions regarding his political future. Over the past four years, he has held positions including chairman of SEV and head of the harbor committee in the Tórshavn city council.

Kári acknowledges significant tension between himself and the current mayor, stating, “The missing teamwork between me and the mayor is likely the biggest problem. We’ve had three extraordinary general meetings at SEV to approve the budget, which is a substantial effort behind the scenes.” He highlights that working under the current mayor is challenging, commenting, “When the numbers come up for discussion, it’s no joke. When you have your own mayor against you, it becomes incredibly difficult to operate.”

The trust in Heðin Mortensen has deteriorated to such an extent that Kári Johansen feels he cannot continue in this manner. He confirms, “Of course, I will complete this electoral term, but I do not intend to show up on election night and create any unpleasantness, so I’ve communicated my decision now.”

Running for the Progress Party is not entirely foreign to Kári Johansen, who aimed to climb the list for the municipal elections back in 2016 before stepping back due to work commitments abroad.
