A large crowd gathered for the main event of Ljósanótt (Light Night) in Reykjanesbær yesterday evening. According to a police statement, visible security was present at the festival area as planned.

One reported assault occurred at a local entertainment venue, but no arrests have been made, as law enforcement believes they have information about the perpetrator. Two individuals were detained for public intoxication, with one of them accused of assaulting two police officers by striking them in the face. This individual will face charges for violence against law enforcement.

The police had increased readiness and received assistance from the capital region and the special operations unit to ensure safety during the festivities. In the lead-up to Ljósanótt, discussions were held with all senior-grade elementary school students.

The police noted a significant level of intoxication among youths and intervened, contacting parents in collaboration with child protection services. Overall, however, the Ljósanótt event was deemed a success, with the community coming together to celebrate the festival.
