A memorial service was held today at Lindakirkja in Kópavogur for Bryndís Klara, a 17-year-old girl who tragically lost her life due to a stabbing. The church was open to the public from noon to five, allowing attendees to light candles and reflect in her memory. Favorite songs of Bryndís played in the church, and friends presented a slideshow of cherished memories.

In the service, heartfelt tributes were read by her classmates, highlighting Bryndís as a hero who saved many lives. Ásta Sóllilja Sigurbjörnsdóttir, the mother of one of Bryndís’s friends, emphasized the importance of this tragedy leading to positive change in society. Guðni Már Harðarson, the pastor of Lindakirkja, urged that the community must come together, offering support to those in distress and ensuring that love remains the only weapon utilized against such violence.

Expressions of rage and hatred directed at the assailant on social media were called unhelpful by the pastor, who invoked Martin Luther King’s words, stating that darkness cannot drive out darkness—only light can.

In honor of Bryndís Klara, a memorial fund has been established to support initiatives aimed at protecting children and preventing violence. The overarching goal is for this tragic event to result in meaningful change, ensuring that no other family has to endure the same grief.

The parents of Bryndís expressed deep appreciation for the support, observing that community solidarity displayed through wearing pink—her favorite color—during school events means a great deal. They find comfort in knowing that society cares and is committed to preventing such tragedies in the future.
