A resident of the Hólmasund care home in Reykjavík has sustained injuries twice under the supervision of staff members. The individual’s lawyer suggests that there may have been wrongdoing involved, prompting the city of Reykjavík to refer the case to the police.

The man, in his forties and wheelchair-bound, struggles to communicate appropriately. In the first incident, he was being transferred from a bath chair to his wheelchair when he was momentarily left unattended and fell, hitting the floor from a significant height. This led to concerns regarding negligence on the part of the staff.

In a second incident, the man was transported in his wheelchair down stairs in the Laugarás area, resulting in another fall. It is reported that this fall caused a shoulder fracture and possibly other injuries. The stairs in question were identified as the location of this incident.

Notably, the first incident was not reported to the Quality and Inspection Authority for Welfare Affairs, while both incidents were reported after the second fall. The lawyer emphasized that the decision to notify the police indicates that the city believes there might be grounds for a criminal investigation.

This case underscores pressing issues regarding the care of individuals with disabilities, raising questions about the oversight and safety measures in place within such facilities.
