Fallen overhead line causes travel disruptions across Denmark

A fallen overhead line in Funen has caused significant travel disruptions across Denmark today. Train services between Korsør and Odense were canceled throughout the morning, resuming only around 1:45 PM. In the meantime, bus replacements were provided between Funen and Zealand, but delays are expected to continue throughout the day.

This change has resulted in lengthy wait times for many Saturday travelers, leading to frustration among passengers. Lene Frost, waiting for a bus at Odense Station, expressed her dissatisfaction with the organization of the rail services, stating that the situation felt chaotic. She was supposed to arrive in Copenhagen hours earlier but found herself among hundreds of others also seeking to continue their journeys.

Another traveler, Lærke Kjøge Petersen, reported being several hours late on her trip from Hadsten to Copenhagen. She noted that delays with DSB (Danish State Railways) are not uncommon, but this particular incident seemed particularly disorganized. She initially expected to reach Copenhagen by 11 AM but, following a series of delays, now optimistically estimated her arrival around 4 PM.

DSB has acknowledged a general industry issue with a shortage of bus drivers, which contributed to the challenges in securing enough bus replacements quickly. The company warned passengers to expect continued delays, stemming not only from the fallen overhead line but also from an unrelated incident involving a person being struck by a train in East Jutland.

Passengers affected by delays of 30 minutes or more may be eligible for compensation under DSB’s travel time guarantee, which varies based on the length of the delay.
