In Reykjanesbær, it was reported that three assaults took place during the Ljósanótt festival last night. Additionally, one individual was apprehended for drunk driving, while two underage intoxicated youths were also dealt with by the authorities. The police maintained a visible presence in the celebration area throughout the formal events, which attracted a significant crowd to the town’s entertainment venues, resulting in a notable amount of public intoxication late into the night.

The biggest night of Ljósanótt is scheduled for this evening, and increased security measures will be in place over the weekend. Police from both the Suðurnes region and the capital area, along with armed special forces, will be present to ensure safety. This heightened security coincides with a rise in preparedness across various sectors in response to a series of serious incidents in the community. As part of these measures, metal detectors have been installed at high school parties in the capital area.

In the lead-up to Ljósanótt, local police engaged with schoolchildren and informed parents that they would not hesitate to intervene if children exhibited concerning behavior. The festivities of Ljósanótt will continue throughout the weekend.
