This morning, approximately 200 pilot whales were spotted off the coast of Rituvík, having been stranded outside Eystnes.
Jacob Vestergaard, the district commissioner, has decided that the whales will be kept in Skálafjørður. Simultaneously, a designated hunting area has been marked on the beach where the slaughter will take place, and also in the harbor area where the whales will be subsequently retrieved.
This information was confirmed by the duty officer at the local police station. Authorities are currently awaiting the arrival of more boats to manage the situation and ensure the whales are contained.
