Denmark’s national bank is set to launch a new banknote series in 2028 and 2029, as reported by Ritzau news agency. A notable change will be that the new banknotes will be six millimeters shorter, although their width will remain the same.

The adjustment is intended to save on paper usage, according to Daniel Krarup Rosenstrøm, the bank’s procurement and quality manager.

Aside from this reduction in size, there will be no significant differences in the banknotes; they will be made from the same materials and will resemble the old notes. The new banknotes will be crafted from cotton paper and incorporate watermarks, making them difficult to counterfeit.

Additional security features will be included in the new banknotes, although the national bank has not disclosed what these features will be.

The notes will feature designs inspired by the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen, themes of astronomy and geology, as well as imagery related to the Thule expedition. The back of the notes will consistently depict the sea.
