Travelers face significant train delays across Great Belt after power cable incident near Nyborg

Saturday 7th 2024 on 11:08 in
Denmark

Travelers planning to cross the Great Belt by train today should prepare for significant delays. A power cable fell near Nyborg this morning, disrupting train services between Odense and Korsør. In response, DSB has deployed shuttle buses along the route, but they are struggling to meet demand due to a shortage of available buses.

Currently, approximately 400 passengers are waiting at Korsør Station, as images from the site depict a crowded area filled with travelers awaiting transportation. DSB has managed to provide 13 shuttle buses for the route, but officials acknowledge that the number is insufficient given the circumstances. They are actively seeking additional buses and drivers to alleviate the situation.

Train operations are not expected to resume until at least 2 PM, a delay extended from earlier forecasts of an 11 AM restart. Sund & Bælt is responsible for repairing the fallen power cable.

Furthermore, it is noted that there are more passengers than usual today due to the Aarhus-Copenhagen cycling race, contributing to the high volume at stations.

The disruptions may be substantial, prompting DSB to activate its travel guarantee, which allows affected passengers to apply for compensation for their delays. Further information on the compensation process is available through DSB’s official channels.
