Thanks to the warm weather this autumn, surface water temperatures in Finland’s inland waters are significantly higher than average for this time of year, according to Merja Pulkkanen, team leader at the Finnish Environment Institute.

In southern and central Finland, surface water temperatures are about 18 to 20 degrees Celsius, while in central Finland, temperatures range from 16 to 18 degrees. In Lapland, surface water temperatures are lower, at around 12 to 15 degrees Celsius.

The warm weather extends to Finland’s marine areas as well, where surface water temperatures fluctuate between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius. Anni Jokiniemi, a marine expert from the Finnish Meteorological Institute, confirms these readings.
