Samfés expresses heartfelt condolences and emphasizes the importance of parental involvement in children’s lives. The organization encourages parents to actively participate in the activities surrounding their children, highlighting that such involvement serves as a preventive measure.

Following a tragic incident where Bryndís Klara lost her life after a stabbing during the Culture Night event, Valgeir Þór Jakobsson, the chair of Samfés, conveyed the organization’s deepest sympathies to her family and friends. In a released statement, Samfés, which represents social centers and youth houses in Iceland, echoed community concerns regarding the growing culture of violence among the youth.

“Clearly, a severe development has occurred, with an increase in serious violence cases in recent years. Violence plays an excessively large role in the daily lives of children and teens,” Valgeir stated.

Samfés calls on society at large to unite in addressing the escalating culture of violence among younger generations. The organization believes collaboration is key to achieving meaningful change. “Let’s discuss with our children the consequences and dangers of violence and weapon use, set clear boundaries, and provide support,” added Valgeir.

Furthermore, the announcement emphasizes the significant protective role of social centers and youth houses, noting that research indicates participating in such activities is crucial in reducing risky behaviors among children and teens. “Preventive work is an essential part of our society, and we must not be complacent. The savings lie in enhancing preventive measures and securing funds for such initiatives,” it concluded. Samfés expressed deep sorrow over the recent tragedy and extended heartfelt condolences to Bryndís Klara’s family and friends.
