The group of Grind whales that were tagged in Fuglafjørður on September 3 have made their way to Kallsoyarfjørður, where they spent their first night, before migrating southwards towards Munkagrunnin.

According to the latest updates from Havstovan, the whales have now traveled south past the Bankarennuna into an area east of Bankaryggen, also known as Wyville-Thomson Ridge. The distance covered is approximately 150 nautical miles.

On September 3, a total of 50 whales were recorded from Kallsoyarfjørður and were brought onto the sand in Fuglafjørður, where three were tagged.

The tracking devices include one that solely monitors location, while another provides information on the whale’s behavior during diving.

A third device was attached to the whale’s back, specifically at the dorsal fin. This device connects to a temperature sensor that has been deployed into the whale’s blubber.

Measurements from the temperature sensor offer insights into when the whale is foraging for food.

The transmitters weigh between 60 and 300 grams.
