Giske sued by Salvatori AS over bathroom renovation dispute in Oslo

Trond Giske has been sued by the construction company Salvatori AS after they renovated the bathroom in his apartment in Oslo. The agreement for the renovation was established in 2021, outlining that the work would be completed within five weeks for a fixed price, contingent upon no additional work being required.

However, additional work was performed, leading to disputes between the parties regarding the agreement. Salvatori AS claims that Giske consented to the extra work and its associated costs, a claim that Giske disputes. Consequently, he did not pay the final invoice that was issued.

As a result of the court ruling, Giske is required to pay 53,404 kroner to Salvatori AS but will also receive 29,964 kroner in compensation from the company. Initially, the claim was for nearly 250,000 kroner, but Salvatori AS received only partial approval for their lawsuit, alleviating Giske from a significant part of the claim.

Giske characterized the ruling as a “complete victory” and stated in a message that the attempt to claim payment for fictitious additional work was rejected. He also pointed out that the opposing party must bear their own legal costs. The court determined that the amount withheld by Giske was excessive, as his costs were not justifiable.

The Managing Director of Salvatori Bad denied claims of attempting to coerce Giske into payment, asserting that there are still much unpaid costs related to the bathroom renovation. The lawyer representing Salvatori AS has stated that they have yet to decide whether to appeal the ruling.
