Faroese Court begins deliberations in significant sexual assault case

The Faroese Court has commenced deliberations in a significant sexual assault case.

A 21-year-old man has been sitting in the defendant’s chair all week, charged with multiple counts of sexual assault and attempted sexual assault against girls under the age of 15, along with other criminal offenses.

Most of the alleged crimes occurred last year, with one incident reported in 2022 and another in 2021.

This case is classified as a “nevniting,” which mandates a minimum of four years of unconditional imprisonment if convicted.

The proceedings began on Monday, and six days have been allocated for the trial. Today, the court is set to address the key question of guilt—specifically, whether the defendant is guilty or not. Should he be found guilty, the court is expected to determine the sentence during next Monday’s session.

This morning, the judicial process commenced, where both the prosecution and defense presented their closing arguments before the case is taken under deliberation.
