This year, the government is providing regions with three billion Swedish kronor in targeted funding, known as sectoral grants, to help them manage temporary cost increases resulting from inflation. The government has now proposed a sectoral grant for 2025 as well, amounting to two billion kronor. Although inflation has decreased, officials believe it will take time for regional economies to recover.

In the upcoming budget proposal for 2025, an additional one billion kronor is also suggested for the regions to create more healthcare capacity and reduce waiting times for medical services. This funding is performance-based, meaning regions must demonstrate results to qualify for the grant.

There are already planned investments to increase healthcare capacity in 2025, totaling 7.5 billion kronor, which includes the new billion-kronor addition.

Furthermore, the government aims to allocate an additional 100 million kronor in 2025 to establish a national healthcare mediation service that will identify available healthcare resources across the country to alleviate waiting times in other regions. In total, the government is investing 250 million kronor in the national healthcare mediation service for 2025.
