Suspect remains in custody for additional four weeks in Neskaupstaður, East Iceland

A man suspected of killing a couple in Neskaupstaður at the end of August will remain in custody for an additional four weeks. The initial detention order was set to expire today, but authorities in East Iceland announced that the request for continued custody has been granted, extending it until October 6. Previously, it was also decided that the suspect would undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

According to the police statement, the investigation is progressing well, although significant work remains in the processing of evidence. The police have emphasized that this phase of the investigation will take time.
