Starting January 1, 2026, 3.4 billion kronor will be allocated in the budget. According to the Tidö parties, changes to the high-cost dental care protection will align it more closely with systems in other healthcare sectors.

There is growing concern over the dental health of the elderly, who often have considerable dental care needs but tend to visit the dentist less frequently. This situation affects their social lives, which has been termed deeply unsatisfactory.

The upcoming budget for 2024 marks this initiative as the most significant dental care reform in over 20 years. The government plans to enhance oversight of the dental sector, making it easier to revoke conditions for practicing dentistry if necessary.

As the budget diskussions unfold, there have been debates about changes to tax deductions related to employment, with an aim to reduce taxes by the end of the year.

The government’s approach reflects a broader commitment to improving access to dental care, particularly for the elderly population.
