Electric vehicle and heat pump adoption rises in Norway as oil consumption declines

Friday 6th 2024 on 09:13 in

Recent data indicates a significant increase in the adoption of electric vehicles and heat pumps in the country, reflecting a positive trend in oil consumption.

In 2022, oil usage in land transportation and heating dropped by 5,426 tons compared to the previous year. This decrease is part of an ongoing trend, as there was also a reduction in oil consumption in 2021. The Environment Agency anticipates that this pattern will continue, as more individuals invest in electric cars and heat pumps.

However, in 2023, there were two sectors where oil consumption did not decline: land-based industries and electricity production. The Environment Agency attributes this stagnation to substantial growth in the aquaculture and offshore fishing industries, which have led to increased energy demands.
