Coastguard vessel Þór rescues three foreign tourists in Hlöðuvík, Iceland

A rescue operation was successfully completed when the coastguard vessel Þór reached Hlöðuvík this evening, establishing contact with a group of three foreign tourists who had issued a distress call earlier in the day. Reports initially suggested the call originated from an emergency shelter in Hornvík, but the decision was made to navigate Þór to Hlöðuvík, the next bay to the west, where the crew sounded the ship’s horn. This prompted the group to reach out via radio communication. According to the Westfjords police, concerns stemming from the severe weather conditions experienced this morning likely induced panic, leading one member of the group to send the distress signal.
