A man who found himself in trouble while hiking on Kastárfjall, located east of Höfn in Hornafjörður, was located by rescue teams today under challenging conditions. The man had alerted emergency services himself, but his exact location was initially unclear, prompting a wide search area.

The Coast Guard helicopter was dispatched to assist but was unable to approach due to strong winds in the area. According to statements from the local rescue organization, Landsbjörg, the man was quite cold by the time help reached him.

Rescue personnel assessed the situation before determining that he could be escorted down from the mountain with assistance. Despite the difficulties posed by steep slopes and demanding terrain, the man expressed confidence in his ability to walk down with help. The rescue efforts underscore the need for caution when hiking in rugged mountain regions, especially in adverse weather conditions.
