A yellow weather warning is currently in effect for the central highlands and northern regions of Iceland due to strong southwesterly winds and storms. Residents are advised to secure outdoor belongings, and travelers are urged to exercise caution as wind gusts may reach speeds of 40 meters per second near the mountains.

In Ísafjörður, the weather has been particularly severe, leading to the partial closure of Pollgata after a sailing vessel broke free from its moorings and was washed ashore. Rescue teams are currently engaged in efforts to recover the vessel, while local residents are reminded to take care of their property amid the high winds.

According to the Icelandic Meteorological Office, winds are expected to range from 13 to 23 meters per second this morning, with the strongest winds occurring in the northern parts of the country and widespread rain. In northern Iceland and the central highlands, wind speeds may reach storm force, with localized gusts reported in the Westfjords, Strandir, and northern regions of up to 30 to 35 meters per second. On the central highland, gusts could potentially peak at 40 meters per second.
