Strong winds are expected across northern regions of Iceland today, with yellow weather warnings issued for four areas due to the forecast of gales or storms. Gusts could reach up to 40 meters per second near mountain ranges, prompting authorities to encourage people to secure any loose items outdoors.

The southwest is experiencing intense winds, with predictions of gale-force winds all over the country and particularly strong gusts in the West Fjords, the Strandir region, Northern Iceland, and the Highlands. The Icelandic Meteorological Office anticipates wind speeds of 13 to 23 meters per second this morning, with the strongest winds occurring in the northern parts of the country, accompanied by widespread rain. In these northern and Highland regions, storm-strength winds are expected, with localized gusts reaching 30 to 35 meters per second in the West Fjords, Strandir, and Northern Iceland. Gusts on the Highland may reach up to 40 meters per second.

As the day progresses, rainfall is expected to decrease across the country, particularly in the eastern areas, with temperatures ranging from 10 to 20 degrees Celsius, warmest in the northeast. Winds are projected to ease slightly overnight and into tomorrow, dropping to 8 to 15 meters per second, with the strongest winds still expected in the northwest regions.
