Iceland’s national broadcasting service, Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV), is offering live sign language interpretation of its evening news broadcast online. This new service is being implemented tonight to accompany a special transmission from the Paralympic Games in Paris, which will be aired on RÚV 2. The sign language news segment is scheduled for 7:30 PM.

In addition to this initiative, other local news highlights include discussions surrounding increased visible police presence and community policing, a reported decrease in berry-picking participation compared to previous years, and expected cooler weather conditions in the coming days. There are also forecasts of reduced winds and precipitation tomorrow, with warnings of heavy rain anticipated over the weekend.

Additional reporting focuses on various community matters, such as the proposals from Langanesbyggð for the consolidation of fish processing facilities, and recent earth tremors near Bárðarbunga, measuring up to 5 on the Richter scale. In a broader European context, the European Union is advocating for enhanced cooperation with EEA countries.

The broadcasting service aims to ensure accessibility and inclusivity in its news coverage while addressing significant local events and community concerns.
