Mari Manzetti, a colleague of Princess Märtha Louise on her podcast, has defended her friend against criticism, asserting that the backlash is overly harsh and exaggerated. Manzetti emphasized that Märtha is making her own choices and deserves support instead of being “slaughtered” by public opinion.

Following a recent royal wedding in Geiranger, Norway, the royal family has faced scrutiny, particularly regarding the choice of location and the potential commercialization associated with the event. Manzetti, who attended the wedding and later joined a Danish talk show to discuss the fallout, pointed out that Märtha could have chosen to marry in Los Angeles, her fiancé Durek Verrett’s hometown, but instead wanted to showcase the beauty of Norway.

The wedding, which has not been without controversy, featured a media arrangement where British Hello Magazine purchased exclusive rights to cover the event. Critics argue that this decision conflicts with traditional practices of the Norwegian royal family. Prior to the wedding, guests received emails about a photography prohibition, and large white sheets were employed to shield the couple from cameras.

Manzetti rejected claims that the sale of photo rights was inappropriate. She explained that Märtha, now detached from royal duties, has the right to create her own path. According to Manzetti, the wedding also economically benefitted the local community and helped promote Norway on an international scale.

However, the wedding’s associated merchandise has faced challenges. Just days before the ceremony, Norway’s health authorities ruled that the “Pink Gin” produced for the wedding violated advertising regulations, causing its sale to be halted. Additionally, Märtha’s clothing brand was promoted during the festivities, with merchandise reportedly being distributed and sold at a temporary store.
