Charges filed against 21-year-old man in Faroese court for multiple sexual assaults

Tuesday 3rd 2024 on 19:53 in
Faroe Islands

In a legal case currently underway, a 21-year-old man is facing charges of at least five counts of sexual assault involving the same victim. Three of the four girls he is accused of assaulting were aged 13 or 14 at the time. He is also charged with engaging in sexual acts with two girls aged 12 and 14. Additional charges include indecent exposure, filming one of the girls without consent, and providing Ritalin to others.

Most of the alleged offenses occurred in 2022, with one incident reported in 2021.

The defendant has completed questioning in the Faroese court, where he denies the rape charges but admits to other accusations, including engaging in sexual acts with three girls under the age of 15.

Tomorrow, the testimonies of the girls involved will be recorded via video. Due to the sensitive nature of the case, which involves children under 15, the court proceedings will be closed to the public.

The jury’s deliberation on the verdict is set for this Friday. The prosecution has not yet disclosed the severity of the punishment they are seeking for the defendant. However, as the case is classified as a jury trial, the minimum sentence required is four years of unconditional imprisonment.

The jury trial commenced in the Faroese court yesterday, with six days scheduled for proceedings. On Friday, the jury will determine the defendant’s guilt or innocence, and if found guilty, they will consider the appropriate sentencing, which is expected to take place on Monday. The defendant was arrested in October of last year and has been in custody since then.
