Efforts to tag whales in Faroe Islands following pod sighting in Djúpur

Tuesday 3rd 2024 on 19:48 in
Faroe Islands

Following a request from Bjarni Mikkelsen, a marine biologist at the Faroe Islands’ Marine Research Institute, efforts will be made to tag several whales. Once tagged, the whales will be returned to the sea.

Earlier in the day, a whale pod was spotted in Djúpur near Oyndarfjørður. However, after discussions with local whaling officials, Jacob Vestergaard, the governor, decided to allow the pod to swim free. The decision was made due to the large number of whales already present in the area.
