Dramatic chase ends with apprehension in Outokumpu, Finland

Authorities in North Karelia reported a dramatic chase that began Tuesday in Viinijärvi, Liper from where the pursuit extended to Outokumpu. At approximately 1:15 PM, a police patrol noticed a car traveling against traffic on Highway 9. The vehicle refused to comply with police orders to stop and fled at high speed.

The chase progressed into the urban area of Outokumpu, where the driver created multiple dangerous situations by driving on sidewalks, cycling paths, a golf course, and residential yards. The driver also ignored traffic lights and signage at intersections, disregarding the rights of other road users.

The pursuit concluded on the property of a residence in Outokumpu, where the driver attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by the police. The entire incident lasted about 30 minutes.

Police suspect the driver of serious traffic offenses, including endangering public safety, driving under the influence, drug-related crimes, and operating a vehicle without proper authorization.

The vehicle involved in the chase is described as a blue, station wagon-style Volkswagen Passat. Police are urging anyone who experienced dangerous situations or property damage due to the aforementioned vehicle during the pursuit to come forward.
