Elokapina has launched a series of protests across Finland, starting Monday. The first major demonstration is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon in front of the Parliament House. According to Elokapina, nearly 800 individuals have registered to voice their concerns, urging the government to address environmentally harmful subsidies.

The protesters are set to march along Mannerheimintie and South Esplanade towards Smolna after 3 PM. The police have warned that Elokapina’s demonstration could disrupt traffic in Helsinki and have advised the public to allow extra time for travel in the city center. Traffic may be redirected as needed.

“The police’s role is to ensure the freedom of speech for the protesters while maintaining public order and safety,” stated Senior Officer Jarmo Heinonen in a police announcement. Authorities plan to engage in discussions with Elokapina to minimize undue disruption to other city residents. In necessary cases, police may intervene during the event, providing instructions or ultimately deciding to terminate the demonstration.

These protests are part of Elokapina’s autumn Kiehumispiste (Boiling Point) campaign, which aims to highlight global warming. Additional major protests are scheduled for September 7 and 27.
