Two assaults involving young people are currently under investigation by the police following incidents over the weekend, igniting a significant community discussion on youth violence.

A 17-year-old girl succumbed to injuries sustained from a stabbing during Menningarnótt celebrations on Friday night. Two other youths were injured in the attack, with a 16-year-old boy suspected of carrying out the act. This incident has sparked widespread conversation about knife use and violence among teenagers.

Additionally, on Friday during a festival in Mosfellsbæ, a youth was attacked with a knife. The assailant remains unidentified, and the police have stated that the investigation is ongoing.

Separately, in Selfoss, police are examining a brawl among teenagers that occurred under the Ölfusá bridge. Reports in a local Facebook group indicate that four to five boys attacked one individual while others watched. The assailants were described as having their faces covered with masks and hoods. Bystanders intervened, prompting the attackers to flee. The lead officer on the case noted that the investigation is in its preliminary stages and that they are reviewing video evidence from the altercation.

Furthermore, another reported assault drew attention in a Facebook community group, where a woman described witnessing an attack on a teenage boy outside Breiðholtslaug. The boy was reportedly injured and in shock but declined assistance. Police confirmed no formal report was filed regarding this incident, and thus it is not under active investigation.

These events are part of a troubling trend reflecting rising concerns about youth violence in the region.
