Coast Guard helicopter assists ill passenger aboard cruise ship off coast of Iceland
A Coast Guard helicopter was deployed to assist an ill passenger aboard a cruise ship off the coast of Iceland. The helicopter arrived at Landspítalinn in Fossvogur shortly after 6 PM. According to Ásgeir Erlendsson, a spokesperson for the Coast Guard, the helicopter had to travel significantly far out to sea, approximately 150 nautical miles west of Garðskaga. Erlendsson noted that such long flights over the ocean are infrequent, with a few instances occurring this summer, but this particular mission represents the longest undertaken so far.
