Fintraffic imposes temporary speed limit for trains between Vaajakoski and Lievestuore in Finland

Fintraffic, the traffic management authority in Finland, has imposed a speed limit of 10 kilometers per hour for trains traveling a 400-meter stretch between Vaajakoski and Lievestuore. This restriction is due to the poor condition of the railway embankment following heavy rainfall over the weekend, as explained by VR’s communications manager, Elina Vuoksenmaa.

The speed limit applies to all trains operating on the route segment between Jyväskylä and Hankasalmi, resulting in delays of five to ten minutes for affected services. No similar speed restrictions related to heavy rain have been reported elsewhere in Finland.

As of now, VR has not received an estimate from Fintraffic regarding the duration of this temporary speed limit or when repairs to the railway embankment will be completed.
