Iceland braces for new storm as yellow warnings to be lifted across the country

Icelanders can expect a new storm on Thursday, bringing strong winds and rain across the country. Yellow warnings that have been in effect since yesterday will gradually be lifted throughout the day.

Meteorologist Þorsteinn V. Jónsson from the Icelandic Meteorological Office indicated that conditions have been particularly wet in the West and the southern fjords, with significant rainfall also recorded in the southern and southeastern regions.

As the morning progressed, rainfall began to lessen, although continued precipitation is expected in the southeast for several hours. “A deep low-pressure system is approaching, which will cause strong winds and considerable rainfall, especially in the South and West on Thursday. Until then, the weather remains mild with low winds and little rain,” Jónsson explained.

This week has seen a mix of weather, but the incoming weather system is likely to bring a marked change, with a return to more turbulent conditions as autumn winds gather strength across the island.
