Low-pressure system brings heavy rain and wind warnings across Iceland

Saturday 31st 2024 on 22:13 in
Iceland

A significant low-pressure system over the Greenland Sea, in conjunction with high pressure over the North Sea, is directing warm and moist air from the south towards the region. Strong southeasterly winds are affecting the country, bringing heavy precipitation to the southern and western areas, leading to potential flooding and landslide risks. Weather warnings for rain are still in effect in these regions.

Additionally, sharp gusts of wind are expected in the mountainous areas of northern Iceland, particularly in the northern part of Snæfellsnes, where a wind warning is active. However, conditions are forecasted to gradually improve tomorrow, with a decrease in both wind and rain. Bright and warm weather is expected in northeastern parts of the country, although wind speeds may increase slightly there.

The details of the weather conditions and developments will be further discussed after sports updates this evening.
