Faroe Islands reports decline in male participation in social services sector

Faroe Islands

The Faroe Islands is a conservative country, which has resulted in a predominance of men working in sectors such as fishing, maritime, and construction rather than in social services.

This was remarked upon by Edvar Heen, the director of Social Services, who expressed concern over the current situation.

In recent years, the percentage of men employed in social services has decreased from 21% to 17% of the total workforce.

“It is unfortunate that so few men work in the public sector, as this significantly impacts the work environment, given that such a small number of men are employed in social services,” Heen stated.

He added that even the individuals associated with the services provided by Social Services benefit from having men in the workplace.
