MEST, a Faroese shipbuilding company, has received final approval for the construction of a dry dock in Skála, as confirmed by the Runavík municipality last night. Mouritz Mohr, the director of MEST, expressed satisfaction over the decision.

The new dock will be located east of the existing dock, accommodating vessels up to 12 meters wide and allowing them to berth on the operational side and within the dry dock itself.

The project has undergone several changes throughout the years while awaiting the construction permit. The newly constructed dry dock will be able to accommodate all Faroese vessels except for Norrøna, including ships up to 150 meters in length, 30 meters in width, and 12 meters in depth.

The construction is scheduled to begin this autumn, and the first vessel is expected to be docked in approximately two years. The project cost has not been disclosed.
