Bounty placed on Alexander Sutherland sparks international manhunt following escape in Norway

A bounty has been placed on the head of Alexander Sutherland, which prompted his escape, according to his lawyer Ola Lunde. The Scottish fugitive fled after being granted leave from his 16-year prison sentence for drug offenses, violence, and fraud in April. Instead of returning to prison, he boarded a flight, leading to an extensive international manhunt.

After a stint in Hong Kong, Sutherland arrived in Oslo in June. Lunde believes Sutherland’s choice of Norway was likely part of a broader travel plan rather than a specific target. Sutherland, who was previously convicted for possession of 40 kilograms of heroin, has strong ties to Glasgow’s criminal underworld. His father, Jamie Daniels, was notorious as one of the most powerful crime lords in the city, known for establishing an international criminal empire and maintaining connections with influential networks across the UK.

Sutherland’s troubling family background reportedly pressured him to join the “family business.” In a hearing in Edinburgh, he sought a reduced sentence, citing his upbringing in a criminal environment. He was apprehended after spending ten days in Norway, captured at a 7-Eleven store in late June when Norwegian police recognized him.

Sutherland consented to extradition back to Scotland, which could happen within weeks. If returned, he may face additional years behind bars due to his escape, potentially leading to a life sentence, although his lawyer remains skeptical about that outcome. The Scottish authorities confirmed they are collaborating with Norwegian officials regarding his extradition.
