Eight people were hospitalized and three sustained serious injuries on Thursday evening when lightning struck a tree at Högsätra Sports Ground in Lidingö, near Stockholm. A father shared that his son is among the injured and has been receiving care overnight at the hospital. “He lost sensation in his legs, but it’s starting to come back now. This morning the doctors checked on him, and he is feeling better. Hopefully, he can be discharged today,” the father stated.

The entire family is in shock, as the father, who has three sons, described the traumatic event. “Yesterday was a crazy day; today is better. We just need to get home and be together and feel better. The doctor said he was lucky; it’s a one in a million chance.”

The extent of injuries for the other affected individuals remains unclear, but all of the injured are reported to be teenagers. The local football club indicated that the incident occurred during football practice, with several youths gathered under the tree when it was struck by lightning. Rescue leader Barry Levis commented, “I’ve never witnessed a situation like this before. I have worked for a long time, but I have never experienced anything like it.”

Authorities continue to monitor the condition of the injured and provide support to those affected by the incident.
