Prison officer attacked in attempted murder at Enner Mark Prison in Denmark

A prison officer was reportedly attacked last February in a failed murder attempt during which he was stabbed multiple times with a sharp object. This allegation comes from prosecutors who have charged a 26-year-old man with attempted murder related to the incident at Enner Mark Prison. The accused was serving time in a gang section when, on February 18, 2023, he sharpened a toothbrush and stabbed it into the officer’s throat. The victim struggled and managed to fend off several of the stabbings until the toothbrush broke while lodged in his neck.

Bo Yde Sørensen, chair of the Prison Workers’ Union, commented that it was sheer luck the officer did not die, characterizing the attack as “pure evil.” The trial is set to begin on Friday at the Horsens court, lasting four days. The accused has a prior conviction for weapons possession related to the banned gang Loyal to Familia, but it is unclear if this was the sentence he was serving when the attack occurred.

Prosecutors have indicated that a pencil sharpener may have been used to prepare the toothbrush for the stabbing. Yde Sørensen opined that the attack seemed random, stating that the officer was “in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Currently, the accused is being held in a high-security facility known as Sikringen, which typically houses the country’s most dangerous mentally ill criminals. Prosecutors are seeking to impose indefinite detention on the man, with a ruling expected on either September 4 or 13.
