Thunderstorms cause injuries and warnings in Sweden as SMHI alerts disruptions possible
Thunderstorms are primarily occurring offshore, and it remains uncertain how extensively they will affect land, according to the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI), which has issued a yellow warning. The severe weather poses risks of disruptions to electricity supply and train services due to lightning strikes, along with an increased risk of fires.
On Thursday, a powerful thunderstorm swept across northwestern Götaland and parts of western Svealand. In Lidingö, just outside Stockholm, several teenagers were struck by lightning during a football training session. Reports indicate that three individuals were seriously injured as a result of the incident.
