The Kainuu welfare area’s regional council is set to resign following intense discussions on trust during the summer and autumn, according to Kainuun Sanomat. The parties involved have collectively agreed that the regional council will unanimously request its resignation from the regional assembly. Additionally, they have reached a consensus on the composition of a new regional council.

The official discussion of the resignation request will take place on Monday, September 2, after which the regional assembly will elect a new council. The backdrop of this loss of confidence stems from events leading to the resignation of welfare area director Jukka Lindberg in June.

The regional assembly was scheduled to address two questions regarding the trust in the regional council and its leadership on the same Monday. The Central Party’s council group questioned whether the regional council enjoys the confidence of the assembly. In a separate inquiry, 33 assembly members inquired about the actions of the council’s chairperson and leadership in relation to the previous director’s departure, as well as their own trust in these leaders.
