Mai investigates child disappearance in Vestmanna, Faroe Islands

In a newly released book, readers follow 11-year-old Mai, who has recently moved from Thailand to Vestmanna, the Faroe Islands. Mai struggles to adapt to her new life in the Faroes, facing numerous challenges that arise when two different cultures collide.

When a child suddenly disappears, Mai and her friend Emma decide to investigate the mystery themselves. Throughout the story, Mai’s quest to find her identity and sense of belonging in a foreign home is poignantly depicted.

Elin á Rógvi, a prominent author of children’s and young adult literature, has earned the Nordic Council’s Children’s and Young People’s Literature Prize for her contributions to the genre.

Originally from Tórshavn, Rógvi is celebrated not only as an author but also as a singer, comedian, and radio host for children’s programming on Kringvarp Føroya. She has previously written two radio Christmas calendars: “Eg sá ein eingil,” broadcast in 2010, and “Nivinaja,” aired in 2014.

Established in 1999, the Nordic Council’s Children’s and Young People’s Literature Prize is awarded to promote outstanding literature in the field. With a prize of 60,000 Danish kroner, it has been awarded 11 times since its inception in 2002. Faroese authors have received the honor five times, including Elin á Rógvi, along with Dánial Hoydal, Annika Øyrabø, Bárður Oskarsson, and Rakel Helmsdal.
